Santa’s coming to town…tomorrow

Just a quick note, that Aylmer’s Santa parade is tomorrow night.  Leaving the marina at 7pm and heading up Rue Principale toward the Galerie.  I think I would be on the world biggest shit list if we didn’t go.  Kids take this kind of thing seriously.  So dress warm, bring a thermos of hot chocolate, and enjoy the look on your kids’ faces as they watch the magic.  It’s once a year and it’s priceless.

Pandora’s box…

has been opened.  My first born has been asking often enough to ride, that I decided it was time.  Emma had her first official ‘TicToc’ lesson with Sunstsar on Monday evening.  She loved it and she was great.  Sunstar was a trooper, being the schoolie that he is.  He will be getting lots of extra carrots and peppermints from me from now on.  It always helps to cultivate a good relationship with the schoolies.  She will be having another lesson tomorrow afternoon, to make up for the fact that the girls have to come to the barn with me for the rest of the week.  PD days.  Again.  I asked Meg if she wanted to ride, and she very politely said: ‘No thank you.’

My car has a name.  Greyce the Shark.  Somehow, that just works.  The more I drive her, the more I like her.  And I talk to her when we are out.  She seems to like it.  (I was going to call her ‘Greyey’, but Meg came to the rescue with Greyce, and my Mom added the Shark.)

North Bay Fall 2010 Girls’ Wkend was a great time!   Toes were painted, movies were watched, mudmasks were applied, wine was drunk, bazaars were attended, more wine was drunk, wine was drunk, uhhm, what…where…huh??….oh yeah….we had fun!  Love love our girls wkends in North Bay!

Nothing compares to U…

Or to hacking out on a brilliant sunny day, with a steady horse, who keeps reminding me that I can ride, and that he is a fantastically good boy, despite his youth and inexperience!  I try to keep my blog here fairly horse-free, but we’ve had such a great time since I’ve started riding again, that I can’t help myself!  I’m just so glad to be able to ride again, and to be able to go out hacking with him.  I have dreams and ambitions for my riding and for my horse, but my true joy is just to go out on the trails and on the roads and ride!  I am enjoying every moment in the saddle.  And I think he likes it too!

Something I learnt about Bailey today…

I love my horse.  I refer to myself as his mom.  (To be fair, all horse people do that!)  He is my third child.  My baby.  My utter indulgence.  My second chance.  The one creature in my life who never judges me.  He is always-no-matter-what happy to see me (I know because he whinnies at me when he hears my voice, or when I walk away from his stall – and yes, I know a big part of it is my amazing ability to produce carrots at any time – but I think he likes me too.)  I love spending time with him.  Just brushing him as he grazes gives me utter happiness.  Watching him gallop up to the fence when I call him fills me with absolute joy.  Owning a horse is completely different than a cat or a dog.  Cats own you, and dogs, well, who knows!?  Horses are prey animals, and they have a totally different way of interacting with humans.  They are also herd animals, who depend on the herd boss for direction and having a 1200 pound animal let you be the herd boss in your relationship is pretty frackin’ amazing.  If you are lucky enough to have or have had horses in your life, then you most likely completely understand.  You are a horse person.  And if not, then either you just learnt something today about horse people, or you think I’m completely bonkers (that might be true).

All of this is besides the point.  I learnt something very important today about my darling.  Can you guess what it is?

Damn...I blinked...

Damn...I blinked again...

This is not my good side...

This is my better side...

My ears are up...How's my hair??

Wait..wait...my hair's done....ear's up...my good side...click now...

This is what I’ve learnt about my boy:

Sometimes, actually a lot of times, Bailey is as photogenic as his mom.  Which is completely not.  And if you thought I was going to post a bad pic of myself, think again.

P.S.   Despite the bad photos, ain’t he cute?  I really, really love my horse!!

My Baby Drives a Mercury…

And now so do I.  Thanks Collin James, always love your music, but time to get out of my head!  So now we’ll start singing ‘I’m a soul man’, thank you, Sam and Dave.

We have decided to lay Vanya to rest (aka trade her in for whatever we can get) and Todd is now the new proud driver of a Kia Soul.  My ‘new’ car is the Mercury Sable that we’ve had since buying it off my parents years ago.   (Thanks Mom!)  I don’t resent the fact that he gets a new car, but I will admit to a bit of might jealousness.  When we bought the van, it was my van.  Supposed to last a while, regular maintenance and all expected, but with all the problems in the last while, that was the death knell for it.  I just didn’t trust it anymore, Todd never liked it, so we kissed it goodbye.  (Maybe even literally, cause like I’ve said, I really liked driving it when it did work!….but I won’t tell you for real…)

Anyway, at the end of this story, my husband has a black Soul, and I have a Mercury Sable, once again.  C’est la vie.  The merc ain’t so bad.  It’s just not my Vanya.  And has no name.  Help me!  Every car needs a name.  Otherwise they don’t run as good.  Proven fact.
