Meg’s birthday was yesterday. I can’t believe my little cuddle monkey is five. How did that happen?
She had a fun day, filled with toys, play group and cake. When she went to bed she said it was the best birthday ever. My heart.
Sometimes it wants to burst.

This is Emma riding the little pony, Cricket. She loves her riding lessons!! She comes by it honestly. Meg wants lessons now too! Mom better get a job, just to pay for them, eh? It’s a cute little place, but when they’re older I’ll have to find a place that teaches English riding. For now, it’s just the introduction to ponies and horses that’s important. (ie, brainwashing!!) I’m just glad we can do this, thanks to Grandma Monica.

I took Meg and her friend Jacob to the Museum of Nature on Thursday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s been under renovation for quite a while now, but I think when it’s done, it will be fantastic. The exhibits are really well done, and I love the bird section. Definitely another visit is in order soon.

Enjoy your weekend everyone! I know I will!!

Todd turned 37 today. How scary is that! I’m married to an old man! ha! I guess it’s only fair, cause I’ll be catching up in a few months. It’s hard to believe that we’re closer to 40 than 30 now. Actually, it’s pretty unbelievable.
And next week Meg turns 5. Where did my baby go?
Playgroup started again this week. Swimming lessons start on Sunday morning, and Emma had her first horse riding lesson last Saturday. Which she loved. But boy are they pricey! Not something we are going to be able to afford on a regular basis, or at least not yet. So same old same old, busy yet not much is new!
So just a quick update for tonight. More pics to come soon.

You know those days when the sun doesn’t show up, and hasn’t shown up for a while? Your kids are just too loud, so you yell at them, and then feel like shit because you hurt their feelings? You keep tripping over the damn dog who keeps lying right in your path, even though two seconds ago she was lying in the way, and moved two feet cause you tripped over her over there and woke her up so she moved? The house doesn’t magically clean itself, in fact it seems to magically get messier, even though you swear you spent all of twenty minutes doing a bit of work? You realize that if you wanted to go out for a drink or a coffee with a friend, a real friend, the nearest person is about a five hour drive away, or a 6 hour flight, depending on which friend you wanted? You realize that your husband doesn’t really get you, and never will, because he is a man, and he cannot read your mind, and men are not women, and never will be, therefore they will never truly get you? Only another woman would ever truly understand, and that is not being sexist, it is being a realist! And that’s why Mom’s rock. Who else would you call when that’s the kind of week your having?? Maybe I’m just really lucky, but the first person I think of telling when anything good or bad happens is my Mom. And when I am having a sucky week, or feeling down, I know she is there for me. It’s weird, but as an adult with kids of my own now, I’ve never felt closer to my mother. And I totally didn’t appreciate her enough when I was growing up. I’m so glad now that I have such a good and close relationship with my mom. And that she knows. Moms always know.

This a refrain that Meg’s friend Jacob loves. It’s so funny, he just loves to talk and I bet his mom gets very little peace. But now it’s my turn.
Did you know it’s possible to overfill your vehicle when you are adding engine oil??? Did you know??
Then why didn’t you tell me?? I swear, I am such a dummy when it comes to cars! I just bought oil because the light came on, and I assumed it needed oil. Yes, ASSumed. So I just filled her up! You know those manuals that come with the car? Read them. They can actually give you some helpful pointers. Like how the light that came on meant time for an oil change, not feed me more oil! It also tells you specifically not to overfill, and shows you exactly where the line on the dipstick should be. That’s me. Dipstick. So now I’m off to Crappy Tire to get an engine oil change. Wish me luck.

Another Christmas over and done, another New Year. Why does time go so damn fast! The year of the Golden Pig is almost over, what will the year of the Rat be like? According to the Chinese calendar, New Year’s is Feb. 7. That’s okay by me, I’m gonna hold on to that idea. Pretend that New Year’s is still to come.
We had a nice time with my parents, Sarah and Joachim, and Monica (Todd’s mom). Crowded, but as Todd said, no one got staggeringly drunk and there were no fisticuffs! Tempers flared a few times, but nothing too major! We managed to get in a few games of Puerto Rico, which Todd managed to win. A first for him. He is the one that loves board games, and has a huge collection of them, but almost never wins when he finally gets someone to play. He doesn’t care though. Just wants to get people to play them. But the time just went too fast. I blinked and everyone was gone.
Now things are getting back to semi normal. The pool is open, and we’ve gone swimming quite a lot, which is good. And I’ve been taking the dog for long walks. Todd is off work until next week, and Emma doesn’t start school until next Tuesday, so we are enjoying the time. Todd took the girls to the Museum of Nature yesterday, and we might go to the Museum of Civilization today or tomorrow and go for a swim, of course. We still have to take the tree down, which of course the girls don’t want to do, but I want to get it out of the house. Clear up the Christmas clutter, and then do some de-cluttering and organizing in the house. Lots to do.
The cats are getting fixed next week, thank goodness. Cherry and Mina have been in heat, and driving poor Tye nuts. (bad pun) Tye was neutered last year, but the girls don’t seem to know that. And he hates them.
Well, happy new year.
