Anniversaries…

I just remembered today that on Wednesday, the nineteenth, it will be our sixth year anniversary, for Todd and me. I am debating with myself, if I should remind him, or wait for the day, and then let him get in trouble for forgetting!

Last year, we both forgot completely, we were on vacation at Stella’s camp, and didn’t remember till a few days later. This year, I’ve actually remembered now, but I doubt he will. It’s not really a big deal, kind of like a birthday, which aren’t all that important to me anymore. But still, flowers would be nice!

Anyway, the heat is still unbearable. Thirty-two degrees, add on the humidex it is closer to forty. Thank God for airconditionning. I took the girls, including Sasha, down to the river to swim. I don’t see why not. It’s the same river as the beach, and it is nice to be so close. Gotta be some bonuses to living in Quebec, with the heat, and all the flies and wildlife in this area!

For the past two nights, I’ve been sitting outside enjoying the evening cooling down, and reading, and a skunk has come within five feet of where I was sitting. The first time, I freaked out inside, but calmly asked him to go away and please don’t spray me. The second time, I wasn’t so surprise, and just said hello to him, which he didn’t like. If you are quiet and calm, he just leaves. We’ve also had a big fat racoon, and her three babies visit. I know that they are after the cat food, so I don’t leave it out at night anymore.

Colonel Ty, the stray male cat is still visiting all the time. He has gotten quite used to the kids and the dog now, too. I guess come fall I will have to get him fixed and see if he’ll stay with us. He is such a little sweety. Mooch aka Flower hasn’t been around for the last couple days, but I’m sure we’ll see her again. She is much shyer than Ty, and it could be that she has stopped in but we weren’t outside. Or maybe someone took her in. But I guess I was right not to get another cat from the spca. I knew another cat would find me his own way, just like my other kitties did.

Well time to go plant some more tomatoes. I still have a bunch in small pots that are setting flower, and even tomatoes, so I really had better find space for them. Can’t have too many tomatoes, apparently.

If you can’t take the heat….

Go to the beach.

It is so hot here today, at least 30 degrees, plus the humidity. I lasted as long as I could, but had to turn on the A/C. At least the house will be nice and cool when Todd gets home tonight. He rode his bike to work, so I know he will appreciate it.

I think I will take the girls to the beach later this afternoon, when the sun isn’t quite so strong. Very high UV, and Meg and I both burn pretty easily. Emma doesn’t burn so much as tan, lucky thing. We are so lucky that the beach is a quick bike ride away, although the water quality is starting to drop. Tuesday night we all went for a swim, and the water is really warming up, so much that it isn’t really refreshing anymore.

The garden in July

I guess I’ll try to keep a record of my garden, so I can remember what grew well and what didn’t, and what to do for next year.

I didn’t have my annual plant sale this year, just didn’t get going early enough.  I’ll have to kick myself next year.  Sold a few brugs, and hostas online, but not enough.  Brugs are my big addiction.  They are simply the most beautiful plants.  Next year, I need to really be organised and grow and sell more.

Anyway, brugs are doing great.   Note to self, brugs in pots appear to be doing much better than brugs in ground.  Also, Oleander is doing much better in ground as oppose to potted.   Snow peas growing like crazy.  Tomatoes are good, so far no blight.  Radishes not so great, and no sign of carrots.  Hmmm.   Cannas definately needed more sunlight, this year, full sun and I think I’ll see flowers, finally.  Also need to get rid of oregano.  Growing too much, and crowding tomatoes.

My first post

Well, here goes. Hey to the big wide world! Right now, I am avoiding everything that I should really be doing, and spending time on the computer instead. The kids are watching a show – the first one today, I might add, and hopefully will take a nap afterwards.

I hate Mondays. Not because of work, but because Todd has to go to work, and then I have no excuses for the way the house looks. I should be cleaning and doing laundry, and all that mundane stuff. Especially when the kids aren’t underfoot and I have the time. Instead I find ways to procrastinate. I have always been a fantastic procrastinator. Oh well, I did weed the garden yesterday so I’m going to allow myself to feel a little less guilty for being lazy.

And I feel kind of out of sorts because my sister, Sarah, was here for a visit from overseas, but she flew home on Saturday. I really miss her now. She lives in Vienna, which is just so far away. My parents were here for Canada Day last weekend, but they are home now too, which is Sault Ste Marie, a good nine hour drive away.
